BALPPA awards to recognise play excellence

Its been five years since the indoor-play industry last had its own awards event, but that’s about to change thanks to the British Association of Leisure Parks Piers and Attractions (BALPPA)

BALPPA is the UK’s strongest leisure trade association, and almost a third of its members are single- and multi-site indoor- or soft-play operators of varying sizes. The association has set up a full programme to support its first Excellence Awards evening, which will be held at Drayton Manor, Staffordshire, on November 27 during an event that will also feature an indoor-play trade exhibition.

BALPPA is encouraging indoor-play operators to “shout about your Excellence” and enter the awards, starting by filling in the nomination form opposite. The BALPPA Excellence Awards provide every indoor-play centre in the UK the opportunity for recognition of their business, their staff and their customer offer.

Why nominate your centre though? Besides the chance to own a shiny trophy, what else can being an award winner do for your business? Tracey Bancroft gives you 10 good reasons to enter:

1.Brand promotion – be seen. Use your participation in the awards on all your corporate literature and advertising, detail it on your website, in your newsletters. Be proud and shout about the fact you can be considered the very best in your field.

2. BALPPA endorsement. Winning or taking part and being shortlisted for an award, acts as endorsement from leisure industry experts and specifically BALPPA and gives your centre and services added credibility to attract new visitors, support potential growth and generate interest from potential investors.

3. Publicity. Supported by some of the artwork supplied by BALPPA you will be able to generate media interest - especially if you win! BALPPA will promote all shortlisted entrants, the winners and supporters of the Awards via all social media platforms.

4. Employees… people of Excellence. The best employees want to work for the best organisations, award-winning organisations and those that know they are the best in all that they do.

5. Set your organisation apart from your competitors. When a potential client or investor is sizing your organisation up against your competitors, a BALPPA Excellence award could just give you that edge. It can make your organisation a centre of Excellence.

6. Consider your successes. The BALPPA Excellence Awards application form provides an opportunity to reflect on your successes. Managing the day-to-day operation of your business, you can forget to stop and consider your strengths, areas for improvement and the direction you want your organisation and its team to move in.

7. Present yourself as an expert in your field. Winning or being shortlisted for an award can reinforce your reputation as a trusted expert in your industry, which could lead to exciting business opportunities and create on-going PR and development opportunities.

8. Network with best business leaders in the Leisure Industry. Attending the Awards dinner will give you the opportunity to network with influential BALPPA members and leisure business leaders and professionals.

9. Develop. Improve. Encourage staff morale and retention. Achieving recognition at the BALPPA Excellence Awards will have a positive effect on staff morale, increasing motivation and improving retention. The experience of attending an award ceremony can be a fantastic way to enhance team spirit, commitment and encourage improvement in future productivity.

10. Oh yes…the prize! And of course, there is the chance to win a glittering trophy, a great addition to any indoor-play centre. Also, if you are not currently a BALPPA member upon winning you also get a FREE year’s membership.

Enter the BALPPA Excellence Awards and reap the benefits of being an award-winning leisure business of excellence!

Recognising the cost of exhibiting at industry-specific trade events can be prohibitive for small, innovative suppliers, BALPPA has teamed up with industry stalwart Mike Boyle of Activity World in Peterborough to build on his model of a bite-sized, budget-friendly expo. In September 2016 Boyle offered the first cost-effective event of this kind and it was a great success.

Building on this model - BALPPA and Boyle will offer BALPPA members and non-members alike a series of trade shows, giving operators the opportunity to meet and talk to suppliers in a relaxed, welcoming environment – a real ‘get to know the supplier’ experience. Visitors will attend for free.

The first event is The Attractions Show, on September 14 at Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire. Around half the zoo is inhabited by animals, with the rest being a huge range of indoor- and outdoor-play activities so it is well worth the visit to see all the facilities they have.

The second event, with an awards evening attached, is The Leisure, FEC & Indoor Play Trade Exhibition 2017. The trade exhibition will run from 9.30am till 4.30pm at Drayton Manor Hotel, a four-star hotel located amongst 280 acres of lakes and parklands in one the UK’s best loved theme parks - home to Thomasland. Excellent conference and exhibition facilities within easy access of travel routes provide a perfect location for BALPPA’s Trade Exhibition and Excellence Awards event.
